Howard Lake seeks candidates for open city council seat


The City of Howard Lake is seeking interested, engaged and eligible individuals to finish out the term of a previous councilor, which ends Dec. 31, 2018. To be eligible, one must be a resident of Howard Lake, 21 years of age or older, and a qualified voter in the State of Minnesota.

Obligations & Responsibilities:

City Councilors are expected to attend and participate in regular council meetings and various committee, commission and community meetings. The city council holds one regularly scheduled business meeting per month on the 3rd Tuesday at 7:00pm. Special meetings may occur with the time and date set at least three days in advance of the meeting except in the event of an emergency. Additional expectations include attending and representing the City at various local and state events and meetings.


Submissions will be accepted until 12/1/2017. The City Council will interview and appoint the position at the 12/5/2017 City Council meeting. The selected individual will be sworn into office Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 and their term will expire on 12/31/2018.

    Here are the requirements… You must be able to handle boredom! Listening to the same old people whining and crying about the same old things. You must agree to build useless parks that the town doesn’t need. Don’t allow any businesses into town that people would actually want to use. The population must never reach 2000! Above all, you must be willing to raise everyone’s taxes sky high so they can continue to live in a town where you must drive 20-30 miles to get pretty much anything you need without paying through the nose for it! Being an alcoholic is optional!
