basketHOWARD LAKE, MN – “Stemming” from last year’s initiative to beautify the City of Howard Lake, particularly for the 130th anniversary of the city, a flower basket design contest will again be offered to the city’s businesses and organizations.

“We received a lot of compliments about the baskets,” Howard Lake City Administrator Kelly Hinnenkamp said. “It was fun.”
Baskets will be provided by the city at the time of registration.

The business or organization is then responsible to purchase flowers for the basket, as well as plant them in the basket.
Registration begins Monday, May 4 for Howard Lake Business Association members, and Monday, May 11 for all other Howard Lake businesses and organizations.

Completed baskets must be returned to city hall by Monday, June 22.
The baskets will be judged on color combination, style, durability, and overall arrangement. The winners will be announced during the Good Neighbor Days coronation event Sunday, June 28, and will be posted at city hall.
First, second, and third place winners will be chosen, and will receive $50, $30, and $20 in Howard Lake bucks.

Last year’s first place award went to Cattail Corner. For more information, contact city hall at (320) 543-3670.
