Howard Lake City Council hears police chief’s report

Howard Lake Chief of Police Dave Thompson told the city council that the number of incidents his department responded to was up sharply in 2016.
Thompson quickly added the caveat that the increase, from 1,600 calls in 2015 to 2,200 calls in 2016, could be directly credited to Officer Daniel Schmidt, who excelled at traffic stops. Schmidt is no longer with the department.
Thompson, as part of his annual report, noted the department now has a community service officer, Derek Boese. He also said the department has seen some significant personnel turnover.
