HOWARD LAKE – The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers’ volleyball team hosted the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs Monday night.
The Lakers came away with a hard fought four game win over LP/HT – 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 25-19.
“We played a good match,” HLWW head coach Christin LaMott said.
The opening game of the match was a back-and-forth affair, as the two squads traded points.
First the Lakers would run off three or four points, which would be followed by LP/HT responding with a three- to four-point run of their own.
But, in the end, it was the Lakers that made the final run and came away with a 25-22 win.
Game two was the least competitive game of the match, as the Lakers stormed out to an 8-0 lead behind the serving of HLWW senior Katie Pettit.
From there, the Lakers cruised to a 25-13 game two win as the Bulldogs found itself unable to climb out of that early hole.
However, not willing to go down in straight games, LP/HT bounced back in game three, coming away with a hard-fought 25-22 win to send the match into a fourth game.
In game four, with LP/HT looking to continue its comeback attempt, the Lakers picked up its play to pull out a 25-19 win, which locked up the match.
