Hackbarth house burns down near Montrose


MONTROSE, MN — A house owned by Steve and Lynn Hackbarth south of Montrose sustained extensive damage after a fire engulfed the structure’s interior March 2, according to the Carver County News.The Watertown Fire Department spent more than five hours at the Hackbarth home located at 11732 Douglas Ave. SW, Fire Chief Wade Stock told the Carver County News.

The fire was reported at 10:35 p.m. by the homeowner who upon arriving home saw smoke billowing from the house. No one was at the home at the time and no injuries were reported.

About 60 firefighters from Watertown, Winsted, Montrose and Waverly battled the blaze as it ravished the house’s basement, kitchen and second floor, the Carver Co. News reported. The rest of the interior suffered severe smoke damage.

Stock estimated the cost of the damage to be several hundred thousand dollars.
The incident is under investigation by the Watertown Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office. Wade said officials are concentrating their investigation on the kitchen.

Steve Hackbarth is an active member of the Republican party, and has served with the Wright County Republicans.  He is also owner of Hackbarth Roofing of Montrose.
