DELANO — The Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato (LDC) girls did what it could to extend the season past the quarterfinal round of the Section 2A tournament, but it wasn’t quite enough.

The No. 5-seeded Dragons were hoping to upset No. 4 Delano Feb. 2 at the Delano Area Sports Arena and put themselves in the semifinal matchup with No. 1 Mound-Westonka. The berth to meet the White Hawks came down to one overtime goal.

That goal was scored by Delano’s Taylor Michael at 6:29 of the overtime session.

Michael was consumed in a pile of Tiger teammates in celebration of the 3-2 win as the devastated Dragons skated past in defeat.

“It is always tough to end the season with a loss, but our girls played a great game, followed our game plan, and gave themselves a chance to win against a good team,” said LDC co-coach Matt Hogg. “As a coaching staff, we are extremely proud of each one of our girls and the efforts they put in this season.”
