Freedoms and rights should be maintained

Are we getting mixed messages from the Minnesota Republican Party and their legislators? They have taken the high ground on family values and fiscal responsibility under false pretenses, and now appear to have abandoned them completely.
Recent events demonstrate their inability to manage their own party, let alone govern our state. They always claimed that government doesn’t work and now have proved it, after taking control of the legislature in 2010. Examples are the state shutdown and the two proposed constitutional amendments.
In order to bypass Governor Dayton’s potential veto, they proposed putting a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the 2012 ballot. This amendment is in complete opposition to the concept of individual freedom of all citizens to marry the person they love.
Our constitution guarantees the right of every eligible citizen to vote. This right is threatened by the GOP’s proposed constitutional amendment to require a photo ID for all voters. The supporters of this amendment make the frivolous claim of voter fraud, but it is a blatant attempt to discourage the elderly, students, and lower-income citizens to exercise their right to vote.
To defeat these amendments, we Democrats have to make sure the voters hear the truth about what the Republicans are proposing to do to the gay community and our potential Democratic voters.

Stupidest thing I have read all evening. I want those five minutes of my life back…. :/
The shutdown was Dayton’s fault, and who cares if Amy Koch had a relationship with somebody that happened to be a staffer?… She isn’t married, she’s entitled to a relationship, just like you claim…So foot in mouth there…And as for democrats, I hope you like it when we finally throw P-BO out of office just like we threw Nancy Pelosi out.
B-Rand: But Amy Koch was/is married, and she committed adultry with a staffer, who was/is also married, both have children as well. The point of the letter was the hypocrisy of the GOP. For a party that claims to be about family values and “freedom” they want to legislate gay marriage, and make it harder for people to vote. By the way, Nancy Pelosi is still in office. Perhaps before commenting, you might want to get your facts straight.
STOP IT! Left and right have equally forsaken us………..Neither party is better anymore, can’t any of you see that they preach a different message, yet continue on doing the same old thing? NOTHING changes except more red tape and LESS FREEDOM. The government should have ZERO say in what people do in their private lives (marriage), at the same time if you are a legit citizen……..requiring ID will only discourage those who are illegal or are too lazy to obtain one, no excuses. WE ARE OUR OWN UNDOING! We have grown government to the point that they control and tax us from cradle to grave……the same government that was created to keep us free is now doing the opposite…….please wake up!
“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free”.
By the way…….VOTE RON PAUL!
Matt: First, I agree both parties say one thing, but really just keep “business as usual” running, it’s because they are both beholden to their corporate masters.
However, how is requiring an ID to vote a push for “more freedom?” You say the government has more control over our lives, but you want more government in your life, requiring a government ID to vote? The push for voter ID is noting more than a GOP plan to suppress votes, they know it and the Democrats know it. Voter fraud is a nonexistant issue invented by the right. Voting is a “right” guranteed by the Constitution, with no mention of showing IDs or anything else. What’s the next step, perhaps we should all have to show IDs when we cross State lines? I mean, if we are “legit” citizens, what do we have to worry about? Wouldn’t this stop “illegals” from entering out State? See the slippery slope?
If you truly believe in less government in your life, you’d be against this voter ID farce.
