Anyone have any poems they would like to share for Poetry Month? Here is one I wrote.

HEAVENS DOOR

Father up in heaven what a sight that you must see,
As you look upon your children that you put on earth to be.
Your vision has not been clouded as your light shines brightly through,
It’s your children who’ve been blinded to the things they’re meant to do.

The treasures we hold so precious are as ungodly as can be,
We have yet to learn that earthly pleasures will not set our spirits free.
One through ten you wrote the rules now carved upon a slate,
They were given for our guidance by our eternal magistrate.

Lord, who are these neighbors that we are suppose to love?
The very ones that we’ve been coveting while you watch us from above?
We wear chains with wooden crosses yet rejected your Son who came to die,
Father, I never understood the pain you felt until the day I heard your angels cry.

As a Father you must get lonesome while you watch your children learn,
They must choose their own direction as you pray for their return.
Now, you await us in your mansion above the stars that are your floor,
Your light and truth will shine so brightly the day we walk through Heavens door.

KEEP THEM SAFE FROM HARM

Our children are the future in a world that’s so confused
We have to keep them safe they’re too precious to abuse.
They are innocent to the evil that we’ve placed upon this earth
God gave them to us as a gift from the moment of their birth.

He put the twinkle of his innocence into each and every eye
And hoped that we would love them until the day that we would die.
People can be so selfish and the young ones can get lost
If they don’t find the love they need we’ve paid a very deadly cost.

Spread you wings and surround them and keep them safe from harm
Give them all the love you can so it will keep them warm.
Teach them of your expectations and of all the things you’ve learned
If you share with them your knowledge you won’t be so concerned.

They’ll have room to spread their wings when it’s time to leave the nest
They’ll be confident in their decisions and won’t follow behind the rest.
Your child will soar like an eagle in all his majestic charm
All the while He’ll be thanking you for keeping them safe from harm.

Here is a poem entitled "The Cold Within" that I believe has a great message. The author is James Patrick Kinney

http://www.awakenthemagic.com/inspire/cwithin.html

Another poem that has touched me is this one called "I wonder". I have done a little looking on the internet to find the author, but so far I haven't been able to. If anyone knows who it is I would like to know.

I Wonder

I wonder what I would have done,
Had I been there in that crowd;
Would I have spoken up for Him,
In a voice clear and loud?

Would I have walked beside Him,
Down that dirty, rock-strewn road?
Would I have tried to steady Him,
As He stumbled with His load?

Would I have let Him lean against me?
Would I have gladly borne his weight?
Could I have helped in anyway,
To ease His great heartache?

Could I have said the proper words,
To comfort His aloneness,
To show I shared His sorrow,
To attend to His forlornness?

I wonder if I'd been there,
Would I have stroked His tear-stained cheek,
And kissed His bloodied hands,
And washed his bloodstained feet?

Would I have rubbed His aching shoulders,
Put soothing lotion on His back,
Tended to His open wounds,
And supplied the water that He lacked?

I know I was not good enough,
To volunteer to take His place,
But could I have helped Him bear that cross,
And kept the sweat from His dear face?

Would I have put my arms around His mother,
And hugged her to my breast?
Could I have shielded her from viewing,
Her precious Son's tormented death?

Could I have helped prepare His body,
And have bathed Him with perfume?
I wonder if I'd been there,
Would I have waited by His tomb?

No doubt that Easter Morning,
I would have shouted, "HE IS RISEN!"
And I know I would have thanked my God,
For that most joyous of occasions.

I'm so sorry that He suffered,
And I am sad it was that way,
But I know it was God's plan for man,
And because of it ... we're saved.

The only thing I could have done,
I suppose, had I been there,
Would have been to state my love for Him,
And tell Him that I cared.

THE FARMER

He walks slow but very steady his face looks to the ground,

The bend in his shoulders show the humility he has found.

His hands are broad and calloused the sun has etched his face,

His clothes are not in fashion the season has set his pace.

He rises early every morning always remembering to say grace,

He thanks the Lord for the sunshine and the rain that takes its place.

He has faith in every seed that he has planted in his row

He puts his heart into his work, as he will reap what he will sow.

His days are long and labored as he wipes the sweat off his brow,

He carries on the family tradition it was his Father who taught him how.

The Farmers life is simple looking through his complex eyes

He cares for the earth he lives on and that is what makes him wise.

Here is a poem I wrote in 2001. Reading the posts on immigration made me think of it again.

The Lady Is Made of Iron

She’s the symbol of our freedom
Just as sturdy as a rock,
Her focus never waivers
As she watches over her flock.

She’s a mother made of iron
An island is her home,
She’s an independent Lady
Who dares to stand alone.

The Lady is a beauty
To the poor and tired eyes,
She calls out to the homeless
As she summons them to rise.

As she stands out in the harbor
The Lady sees it all,
She welcomes all who visit her
As she stands so straight and tall.

She’s steadfast in her thinking
Never having a change of mind,
She is proud of her accomplishments
The Bill of Rights got signed.

She’s a redblooded American
With a crown upon her head,
The Lady is a monument
To all our recent dead.

With broken chains around her feet
The torch she carries high,
This Lady is made of iron
But today I saw that Lady cry.

Poetry Month is winding down. Here is a silly poem I wrote a few years ago.

The Truth Comes Out

I asked myself this question
This morning when I woke up,
As I looked into the mirror
I held my coffee cup.

Why does everyone seem so phony
Why can’t they just be real?
With all the worlds technology
We could soon be made of steel.

You can get a plastic surgeon
To give you a brand new look,
Tell him you want to look like the model
That you saw pictured in the book.

You can do the silicone injections
In the front and in the rear,
You can change your whole appearance
Until you don’t recognize who’s in the mirror.

The kids now do the piercings
From their head down to their toes,
They’ve got barbells stuck in their tongues
And earrings in their nose.

We seem to get the message
That it’s better to be a fake,
Forget about being real
When you can go on Ricki Lake.

I took a sip of my coffee
I had gone a different route,
I’ve been using Nice ‘n Easy
But the truth was coming out.

From The Inside Out

Rocking gently on my porch swing
Thoughts are gliding in my mind,
I find the rocking steady motion
Helps my body to unwind.

The breeze begins to whistle
I lose sight of all that’s there,
I get lost upon my porch swing
As I do the dead mans stare.

Trapped inside my body
I find the wings to help me fly,
So much I have to say to you
My heart lets out a sigh.

I keep trying to send you a message
Of what I’m all about,
Oh how I wish that you could know me
From the inside out…

Now my thoughts just keep on gliding
They are soaring like the birds,
I am stuck in isolation
As I’m at a loss for words.

My thoughts come there to visit you
They are a stranger at your door,
I know that you can’t read my mind
As I had hoped so many times before.

My words cannot express to you
All the things I’d like to say,
My mind goes blank; my tongue is tied
There are walls that are in my way.

If I could tell you what I think of you
It would have the Hallmark Seal,
But unless you walk within my footsteps
You won’t know just how I feel.

I find comfort in this rocking
As I swing here on my porch,
Although the flame begins to flicker
I continue to carry the torch.

My swing now comes to its resting spot
My heart is full of doubt,
Whatever made me think that you could see me
From the inside out….

Here are a couple of poems I wrote after 9-11

Osama

Yankee Doodle has come to town
Uncle Sam is looking for you,
Our war paint reflects the U.S. flag
Osama, you are through.

We wear the armor of a warrior
The shield of truth, endurance and might,
You’re not even close to being in Kansas
What you did was far from right.

Don’t act like your some choirboy
You made our paths collide,
The bloodthirsty lips you’re talking through
Have proven that you’ve lied.

We’ve pulled up our loose bootstraps
Two can play this game,
You’re getting a taste of your own medicine
September 11th is why we came.

Can’t find you in the yellow pages
You’re playing hide and seek,
Sam’s got a little surprise for you
I dare you to take a peek.

Rockets are firing overhead
Bombs are bursting in air,
There’ll be an encore to these fireworks
We’ve reserved you a front row chair.

Evil can only triumph
When the good guys first back down,
We Yankees never will give up
‘Til we run the bad boys out of town.

Come on out with hands both up
We’re going to seal up your cave,
The sandman’s trenching thru your big sandbox
We came to dig you a six-foot grave.

Never Forget

Time is said to heal all wounds
Yet we shall always remember,
The day that Heaven and Earth stood still
The eleventh of September.

Disturbing visions from the TV screen
Filled our eyes with terror,
Shock and grief ripped through our hearts
As we hung our head in prayer.

Ash and stone are scattered now
In the place we call ground zero,
We honor all who lost their life
Each one an American hero.

Our darkest hour brought to light
That the power of love goes on,
We didn’t yield to fear or evil deeds
The American spirit proved far too strong.

Fellow patriots stand up proud
The test of courage this nation has met,
Our flag flies high in Potters Field
We shall heal – but never forget!
