Wright County Sheriff’s Office recovers body from Crow River – UPDATED

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – Wright County Sheriff Joe Hagerty reported that June 5 at 6:56 p.m. the Wright County Sheriff’s Office Communications received a 911 call of a suspected drowning in the North Fork Crow River near the Keats Ave bridge in Middleville Township. The caller reported that a person they had been swimming with had went underwater and did not surface. At this time the name of the missing person is being withheld, but is described as an 18 year old male.

Rescue personnel from the following agencies responded to the scene: Wright County patrol deputies, Wright County Water Patrol, Howard Lake Police Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter, Waverly Fire Department, Howard Lake Fire Department, Maple Lake Fire Department, and the Winsted Fire Department. At approximately 9:30 p.m. the search was suspended due to lack of daylight. The search for this missing person will continue today, Tuesday June 6.

UPDATE 6-6-17 4:35 p.m.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the search for Levi Wuollet who was last seen swimming in the North Fork Crow River on Monday near the Keats Ave SW bridge in Middleville Township. Levi Wuollet, age 18 of Dassel, was swimming with friends and relatives in the river when he went under and did not resurface.

The search includes deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol, MN DNR, as well as numerous volunteers. Hennepin County Sheriff’s office Water Patrol responded with specialized underwater sonar equipment to also assist in the search.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to be cautious around fast moving water. After some heavy rains this spring many of the area rivers and streams are flowing rapidly and have may have hidden hazards including logs and boulders. UPDATE 6-9-17 9:15 a.m.

Sheriff Joe Hagerty reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 8,the Wright County Communications Center received a call from volunteers assisting in the search in the Crow River for a missing 18-year-old male. The volunteer searchers reported they had located a body in the Crow River downstream from where Levi Wuollet went missing days earlier.

With the assistance of the Howard Lake Fire Department, Sheriff Deputies recovered the body from the river.  The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka County for identification.  The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the volunteers that spent countless hours in the search efforts over the past few days.
