Thank a veteran

Although yesterday (Sunday, Nov. 11) was the official Veterans Day, it is being observed today (Monday, Nov. 12). Today is a good day to thank your father, your grandfather, brother, sister, or a friend for their service. When I was young I thought veterans were old men who fought in World War II. I didn’t think my father, who served in the Navy during Viet Nam, for example, was a veteran. Now, I’ve come to learn veterans are anyone who served time in the armed forces. In a way, I think being of age during the current Iraq War, I have come to appreciate and understand the meaning of a veteran. Like Russ Johnson said, “War is ugly.” Thank you to all who served.

Thanks Kristen for reminding people to thank our veterans for putting their lives on the line so that we may live in a country that is free! God Bless them all.
