Central MN Jobs and Training Services (CMJTS) awarded the Village Ranch Alternative Program of Cokato a $9,000 grant for youth stipends and $3000 for job coaches for the summer work program serving 30 youth in June and July. CMJTS is a private, non-profit employment and training agency.
Community service projects will take place on the Village Ranch grounds, for the city of Dassel and throughout other local communities. Some of the projects at Village Ranch include working on landscaping around new and existing buildings, repairing fencing, lawn maintenance, painting and replacing the gym flooring.
In Dassel they will be working at the fire station cleaning and polishing fire trucks, along with general maintenance of the building and grounds, painting bleachers and dugouts at the Saints Baseball Field and completing general clean-up in the buildings, and general lawn maintenance at the baseball fields.
The work crew will also be doing landscaping, painting and repairs at Spring Lake Park as well as helping the City of Dassel prepare for Red Rooster Days by completing building maintenance, painting and repairing and upgrading the grilling structure.
Other area jobs the youth have assisted with are picking rocks and helping clean out groves for local farmers, helping with landscaping and yard work/clean up at an area farm, assisting with clean up and clearing out items in the grove at DWP Outreach Program in Litchfield, working in horse barns at a horse ranch near Albertville, and moving the MAWSECO 18-21 transition program (STEP) from Buffalo to Howard Lake.
