DASSEL-COKATO, MN - Recently, Dassel-Cokato speech team traveled to St. Peter for its 36th annual speech tournament.
With 29 schools competing, the competition was intense.
The DC speech team competed well and earned the first place AA Team Trophy. DC had to compete against many schools to get this trophy and in particular, from their section, they were able to defeat Mankato East and West, Marshall and New Ulm.
Individually, DC did well with champion Abby Jo Imberg in humorous; Elyse Kallgren, second place in creative; Rachel Korhonen, second place in extemporaneous reading; Amanda Fett, third place in prose; Carrie Duncan, third place in storytelling; and Jon Thorson, fourth place in humorous.
Julia Torgerson, Lizzie Cron, Sara Hughes, and Adrienne Haataja all earned the sixth-place position in their respective categories.
Many of DC’s team received red ribbons, which means they missed making it into finals by one point. Those students are Angela Duncan, Ashley Constenius, Samantha Wiley, Lillia Khelif, Samantha Van De Steeg, Krissy Rootes, Teegen Ebenhoh, Katie Salden, Kaysha Beckermann, and Naomi DeMarais.
The team traveled to Mankato East March 21. The Section 2AA tournament will be Saturday, April 4.
