Last night, many of you probably watched the State of the Union Address given every year by our current president. What was peculiar about this speech compared to previous speeches was George W didn’t give us the state of our union. Maybe he was afraid since the state of our union isn’t all that great. But the state of our union is different for each individual. So my question, what do you think is the state of our union?

That night I decided I would try to sit through the presentation, Hard to call it the state of the union, I fell asleep halfway through it. I woke up to hear some commentary that was just as bewildering.
The one thing I remember was when OUR president went on about earmarks in bills and legislation and how they would be stopped in any forthcoming bills vetoed if you will.
The hypocrisy was when most every single member of congress stood and applauded loudly while GB laughed out loud at the humor in such a picture of the skilled practitioners of earmarks applauding.
Talk about fools on the hill. I think its us fools down below and living in America who still want to believe our government is for the people and by the people.
Everyone needs to vote and stop listening to the BS that we are supposed to believe. We need to vote with our own minds not the messages given to us anymore.
The state of the union is unknown as a whole. Its pretty bad though.
When government and industry data seem surprised that manufacturing has dropped in the USA though. Well DUH we outsourced it all.
Unemployment only considers those new apps, what about those who long ago ran out of benefits.
30 million americans considered middle class living the american dream cannot attain basic health care.
WHY? the question is food for the table or 1000.00 dollars plus to insure a family. They hope to god to remain healthy yet our protectors in government continue to allow tampering with our foods and health in the form of meds and care.
When some elderly citizen who no longer wish to fight are victimized on what used to be medicare through private companies.
When our children are dying in foreign lands serving as national gaurds to other nations for what?
Just for starters I would say our union is on the verge of needing a revolution if thats not too harsh.
I have to agree with MJ. This country is in dire need of a revolution. I am so tired of being governed by capitalism that I could throw up. When are our citizens going to wake up and see what is really happening to our country? We no longer have a say in our government. In this country MONEY talks and the very rich are getting all the tax breaks along with the corporations who in turn take the jobs overseas to keep their pockets/checkbooks even fuller, and the little people (us) left behind are supposed take care of themselves without a job, with high taxes, no money to get a college education, no health insurance and then we are supposed to send our children off to war to defend this country. Excuse me, but there is something wrong with this picture. The only thing our President is good for was lying to this country’s citizens. People thought Bill Clinton was bad, but he was saint compared to this character, and Richard Nixon at least had enough sense to resign (but really do we want Cheney as President - that is really a frightening thought!!!). God help us all over the next few months and years!!!! We will surely need his blessings to get through this!!!
Too often–and this cuts across partisan lines–the state of the union (aka-sotu) becomes a speech about the state of the government. It has nothing about what is really going on in this large and incredibly diverse nation. That is where the connection to the people is lost.
Article II, Section III of the U.S. Constitution states that the president “shall from time to time give to Congress Information of the State of the Union…” In modern times, that “information” has become nothing more than a launching pad for legislative initiatives, many of which go absolutely no where.
Maybe the next president should consider not giving an sotu, like many 19th and early 20th century presidents, just to watch the chattering class (i.e. the DC press corps) have a fit. Now THAT would be fun to watch.
