Two convicted felons from Montana were arrested in Hutchinson Oct. 27 after they had a fairly minor one-vehicle crash in the roundabout on Highway 15 North, according to KDUZ Radio.
A 33-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from Butte, MT, were arrested and taken to the McLeod County Jail. Authorities said they were alerted to the incident after witnesses reported seeing the Jeep Cherokee go through the middle of the roundabout, hit a light pole, and then continue through a ditch.
Police found the damaged vehicle and the two occupants standing by the vehicle that they had driven behind a shed just north of the roundabout. During the investigation, police found two loaded .380 caliber pistols in the vehicle. During questioning, the woman tried to run, but was caught a short distance away. Police also found about 42.5 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. Montana authorities say both are on parole on convictions for violent crimes against a police officer. Hutchinson police are requesting felon in possession of a firearm, 5th-degree controlled substance violation, and 3rd-degree DWI charges on both suspects and also one count of obstructing the legal process on the female suspect.
