Pregnancy pact - not an issue of sex education

How sad is it that teenage girls have to get pregnant to feel loved? Some people would say the 17 teenage girls who allegedly made a pact to all get pregnant, could’ve been prevented with better sex education or the availability of birth control. Um, these girls seem to know enough about sex and they obviously didn’t want to use birth control since the whole objective was to get pregnant in the first place. The issue to be addressed is self-esteem, which girls in today’s society seem to be lacking. A CBS Early Show psychologist even suggested all one has to do is look at the celebrity magazines to see fellow teens getting pregnant. Hello, Jamie Lynn Spears, for example. Look at their role models, not only are they “hot,” (skinny as heck), but famous, and now pregnant. Who could ask for more? I’m being facetious. My suggestion is teaching kids(especially girls) about self confidence and loving themselves so they can avoid self-destructive behavior such as this. The media has already taken care of the sex education part of it (not that that’s a good thing).
