HUTCHINSON, MN — A police officer has been fired and another suspended for one week without pay in Hutchinson over unrelated circumstances, reported WCCO.
Officer Shelly Schmidt was a probationary officer and was told Friday she was fired, according to Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten. While off duty, Schmidt was convicted of trespassing in a field as a passenger in a vehicle, Hatten told WCCO. The radio station KDUZ further noted that the vehicle was Schmidt’s vehicle. More details about the circumstances are reported by KDUZ.
Officer Jason Pederson was told Tuesday he’ll be suspended without pay for 40 hours. He is a six-year veteran of the force, according to KDUZ. Hatten says Pederson’s penalty is due to conduct unbecoming a police officer. Further details were not forthcoming.
