DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The Dassel-Cokato Bounce Back Project is having a community kick off event Wednesday, Feb. 6, with a free presentation by Minnesota marathoner Dick Beardsley. The event will start at 6:30 p.m., and will take place in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Dassel-Cokato High School.

Beardsley is well-known for his abilities as an athlete, but he has also faced and overcome some of life’s most difficult and tragic challenges, while maintaining a favorable attitude — even after facing death multiple times.

“I am looking forward to hearing about Dick’s story, and learning about what he does to remain positive when faced with life’s challenges,” stated DC Bounce Back project member Brenda Christensen. “January is a time to start fresh. Making changes to improve our happiness and connect with others is a great way to start.”

“Dick Beardsley is an inspiration,” added fellow member Annette Bohnsack. “This will be a story of tragedy, victory, and hope. Adversity is something we can all relate to. Hearing someone’s story of adversity gives us courage to own and share our stories.”

Beardsley’s presentation is said to be suitable for families with children ages 11 and older. Free childcare will be provided for youth 10 years old and younger from 6:20 to 8 p.m. in the east gym by the PAC.

The evening will include a performance by magician and comedian, “The Great Brodini,” who is being sponsored by the Cokato Library and Minnesota Legacy Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.

Pre-registration must be done beforehand through the DC Community Education office, (320)-286-4120.

Originally, the event was scheduled for Jan. 30, but was postponed due to the weather.
