COKATO, MN - During Tuesday’s Cokato Chamber of Commerce Holiday luncheon, Chamber President Dorene Erickson honored Mayme Martinson as the 2009 Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Martinson was nominated by the chamber board for her years of volunteer service in her church and throughout her community.
“I don’t think I deserve it, but I will take it and treasure the thought,” she said.
The event was catered by Mary Raisanen of Elbows Allowed Distinct Catering.
This was also the last meeting for Erickson as chamber president.
Her daughter, Dori Kimball, will begin her term as president at the January meeting.

Congratulations Mayme and it is well deserved. I am glad you have been honored and thank you for the years you knew my grandparents and my Mom. You are such a giving person and all benefit.
Congratulations Mayme. You are deserving of recognition by the community for your contributions in many areas. You will always be one of my favorite library patrons–we had many good chats about books we read. Now we can both reread them and they’ll be a surprise, just like the first time.
Congrats Mayme!! =)
This wonderful lady was likely misnamed long ago, it should have been May I, not me, as in,”What way may I help you today. good friend?”
Mayme was like a second mom to me growing up in Cokato way back in the 50’s and 60’s and I give thanks for her loving presence in my life and for this well deserved award, MAYWE all be so dedicated to service as to be a Mayme in the lives of others. Congrats young lady!!!!
