Dassel’s fire department will be looking into grant money for getting dry hydrants hooked up to area lakes. Dry hydrants have no water in them, but they have pipes underground that are connected to lakes. If an out of town fire gets so big that the firefighters run out of water, instead of driving all the way back to Dassel to get more, firefighters drive to the nearest dry hydrant and hook up the pumper truck to it. The pump pulls water from the lake into the pipes and ultimately into the tank of the truck. Dassel firefighters go all the way out to Kingston and Darwin, and all places in between so this is a great time-saver for them.
