WRIGHT COUNTY, MN - Wright County Public Health (WCPH) will hold a H1N1 Vaccination Clinic on Thursday, Dec. 17 in Buffalo. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) recently announced that the H1N1 vaccine can be given to anyone regardless of age or health condition, according to a press release. Therefore, WCPH will open the clinic Thursday to all Wright County residents or anyone living in a Wright County school district.
This clinic will take place at the Buffalo Community Middle School Thursday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The school is located at 1300 Highway 25 North in Buffalo, across from the Walmart store. Note that the start time is later than previous clinics.
Over 3000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine, in both FluMist nasal spray and injection, will be available. There will be over 20 vaccination stations. At the November 17th, H1N1 vaccination clinic in Buffalo 1576 children received the vaccine. All children age 9 and under need to have two doses of the vaccine at least 28 days apart. The December 17th H1N1 clinic will be the right time for the second dose.
At recent public health clinics held in December, 426 people were vaccinated in Annandale and 542 in Albertville. In total, WCPH has given about 3300 H1N1vaccinations since the end of October. In addition, about 11,000 doses of the vaccine have been distributed to local Wright County clinics and hospitals.
WCPH does not want people to arrive early and wait in the cold. The clinic will be set up to allow more people inside. With 3000+ doses of vaccine available participants can arrive at any time between 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. and be assured there will be enough vaccine.
Getting the vaccine is voluntary. A parent must be to present to sign a consent form. They may also send a signed and dated note with another family member or caregiver. There is no cost to receive the vaccine. Bring your insurance card. Public Health can bill insurance to help cover employee costs.
It is important not to receive a vaccination if a person is ill, has a fever, or has a known allergy to eggs.
Wright County medical clinics report having an adequate supply of vaccine for higher risk groups of people and will be receiving additional vaccine in the coming weeks. Medical clinics may still restrict vaccine to high risk people until there is more vaccine on hand.
The WCPH WOW Van will have H1N1 vaccine available beginning January 4.
WCPH has an Influenza Vaccine Information Line at 763-684-2335. This message line is updated regularly as vaccine information changes.
The Wright County website at www.co.wright.mn.us has an information page on influenza and will be updated as more influenza vaccine arrives in the county. The WOW Van schedule is also on the county website.
MDH also operates the Minnesota Flu Line. By calling 1-866-259-4655 people who are feeling ill can talk to a nurse to get answers to their questions about flu symptoms and treatment options.
