H1N1 vaccine clinic in Buffalo Thursday, Jan. 14

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – Wright County Public Health (WCPH) will hold a H1N1 vaccine clinic Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, 1200 Hwy 25 South (on the south side of Buffalo) from 2 to 6 p.m.

This clinic is open to all people, especially those without health insurance or a clinic home. There is no cost for the vaccine.

Public health officials remind parents that children age 9 and under need two doses of the vaccine at least 28 days apart. If a child received the first dose in December they may be due for the second dose now. Local Wright County medical clinics also have the H1N1 vaccine and are taking appointments for all ages.

With the second wave of pandemic H1N1 influenza slowing down and even declared “over” in some areas, many people have become complacent about a possible third wave. Getting your vaccine now will protect you when the next wave arrives.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 15 percent of the U.S. population has been ill with H1N1. That means that 85 percent of people are still vulnerable if they haven’t been vaccinated. Being sick with the “flu” can keep you out of work or school for a week or longer and feeling tired for much longer. Although most people do not become seriously ill with H1N1, some people become very sick. There are people still gravely ill and hospitalized from an H1N1 infection that occurred during the fall.

The WCPH WOW van has the H1N1 vaccine available. This is targeted to people who don’t have a clinic home, have no insurance or are underinsured. There is no cost for the vaccine. The WOW van schedule can be found on the Wright County website at www.co.wright.mn.us or call 763-684-2335 for more information.
