Grant applications due, free workshop offered

The application deadline for Round 1 Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council (SMAHC) Arts Project and Local Arts Development grant programs is Monday, Aug. 3.  The earliest project start date is Thursday, Oct. 15.
Arts Project grants provide organizations with up to $4,500 to produce or present high quality arts events.
Local Arts Development grants provide up to $4,000 to local arts organizations to strengthen their capacity to provide quality arts activities.
These programs are made possible by funds provided by the McKnight Foundation and the State of Minnesota.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit draft applications well in advance of the deadline to allow time for any necessary changes or corrections.
For more information, contact SMAHC at 800-622-5284, or smahcinfo@iw.net, or visit the website at www.smahc.org.
SMAHC will host a free grant writing workshop for organizations interested in applying for Art Project Grants or Local Arts Development grants Wednesday, July 1 from  4 to 6 p.m. at the SMAHC offices, 1210 East College Drive, Suite 600 in Marshall.
The workshop is free, but pre-registration is required. Call the SMAHC office at 800-622-5284 or e-mail smahcinfo@iw.net to register.
SMAHC Executive Director Greta Murray will walk participants through the Arts Projects and Local Arts Development grant application forms and answer individual questions.  This opportunity will teach how to fill out the forms, what the grant review panelists are looking for, and tips on improving an application.
SMAHC is the designated regional arts council for the 18 counties of southwestern Minnesota, which include McLeod, and Meeker counties.
