A valuable 19th century painting was discovered in a janitor’s closet at Gethsemane in Dassel and donated to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, reported the Star Tribune. The painting, called “Christ the Comforter,” depicts Jesus surrounded by those who are afflicted, and was done by Dutch painter Ary Scheffer. Its appraised value, before being restored, was $35,000.It is on permanent display at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, www.artsmia.org.
