Fire destroys auto mechanic shop in Meeker Co.

MEEKER COUNTY, MN – A shed being used as a mechanic and auto body shop in Meeker County was destroyed by fire Sunday evening, according to a press release from the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.

Virl Liebrenz, 58, property owner in the 66300 block of Meeker Stearns Street in Forest Prairie Township, discovered the fire in his shed just after 10 p.m. May 15.

Meeker County deputies, Watkins Fire Department, Watkins Rescue, and Eden Valley Fire Department were dispatched to the scene.

The building and numerous items inside were a total loss. The estimated value of the damage to the building and the contents is $250,000 to $300,000. Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

The fire is under investigation by the Watkins Fire Department. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
