FFA State Convention results in state winners

DASSEL-COKATO, MN - Dassel-Cokato freshman Abby Jo Imberg is state champion in Creed Speaking. This was Imberg’s first year in FFA. In Creed speaking, Imberg had to recite the FFA Creed and answer questions related to it, according to FFA coach Seena Glessing. In the past, Pam Dahlman also won this award when she was in eighth grade. The category is only for seventh through ninth graders.

Five chapter members also received state degrees, the highest honor Minnesota FFA gives to its members. The winners for the state degree are Isaac Dahlman, Isaac Salfer, Katie Peterson, Levi Hendrickson, Kaitlin Hartkopf. In order to eligible for this honor, members must have a supervised agricultural experience project, proactively invested $2,000 in the project, participated in 10 activities above the chapter level, and completed at least two years of agricultural education course work.

There were also two state winners who received the proficiency award in a special area of the supervised agricultural experience project. They are Darin Davis, a 2008 graduate, in dairy production placement, and senior Levi Hendrickson in diversified horticulture.

Among the top five teams who won state recognition include the Market Plan team which placed second in its category. The team consists of Kevin Pearson, Kelsie Cotton, and Calen Ortquist.

Parliamentary procedure team place third. The team consists of Luke Dahlman, Lucas Salfer, Austin Davis, Katie Peterson, Katie Davis, Jasper Asplin, Carlie Hedlund, and Hannah Hendrickson.

The nursery landscape team placed fourth in its category. Team members are Carlie Barth, Cathryn Barth, Jordann Hoernemann, and Abby Jo Imberg. Imberg also placed fourth individually in this contest.

The novice parliamentary team took fourth place as well with team members Kelsey Hartkopf, Jordann Hoernemann, Sam Carlson, Cole Wendolek, Jessica Juncewski, Skylar Posusta-Chrast, Linsey Strolberg, and Laura Tormanen.

Other convention winners included: Ag Mechanics - Chad Benda fourth individual of 102, Best informed Greenhand seventh team, floriculture, sixth of 34 teams; Dairy Cattle, seventh of 44 teams; Small Animals, 21 of 47 teams; Crops, twelfth of 31 teams; Dairy Foods, 37th team; Horse, 25th of 41 teams; and Poultry, 23 of 40 teams.
