DC football player in critical condition following severe head injury

DASSEL-COKATO, MN – Dassel-Cokato Chargers football player Luke “Boomer” Nelson is in critical condition following a head injury suffered in Friday night’s game against Orono. Nelson was taken by ambulance to Litchfield, then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, according to his CaringBridge site. He underwent surgery at 12:20 a.m. After a three-hour surgery, the right half of his skull had been removed to reduce swelling and allow his brain to heal. The next 72 hours are critical, the site noted. However, nurses have said he is strong, because he stirred after surgery.
