Dassel tower to come down Tuesday

UPDATE: The old water town is down, sitting in pieces in the city office building parking lot, after only one day of a crane lifting section down, piecemeal. The tower was erected in 1930, according to the Dassel Area Historical Society.

DASSEL, MN – The old water tower for Dassel is expected to come down Tuesday, with crews coming in Monday to do prep work, said Administrator Myles McGrath.

“It’s in close quarters,” McGrath observed.  A crane will be used to dismantle the tower.  The contractor will be covering the city hall building with fire proof material to protect it while pieces of the tower are cut away with a blow torch.
