Dassel proposes a nuisance ordinance notice

The City of Dassel is working on streamlining a process to get residents to clean up their yards cluttered with junk, cut long grass, or remove weeds. The city attorney, Kristen Carr, is coming to Dassel Nov. 19 with some ideas. So far, the city has put together an “adminstrative notice of violation” that will be given to residents who need to clean up their property. First, it lists the violations. Then it lists corrective actions. Residents are given 30 days to clean up junk, and seven days for weeds and long grass violations. If residents don’t take corrective action, they will receive an administrative ticket. The City of Dassel will take action and charge the costs as a lien against the properties. If residents think they can’t take corrective action, they have 48 hours to make alternate arrangements with the city. The order becomes final no later than 10 days for junk and 48 hours for weed violations after residents receive the order. Anyone who feels aggrieved by the order, must request in writing an appeal before the city council. The written appeals are turned in to the city clerk. The city council intends to talk about this Monday night, Nov. 5. 7 p.m.
