DASSEL, MN – The Dassel Fire Department decided to take its regular training out to the Saints’ ballfield last Monday night, playing baseball in the chilly evening.
This game was a bit different, in that each player at bat was sporting an air compression pack on his back, which weighs about 20 lbs. each.
Older packs used to weigh about 60 lbs. “The packs used to be steel,” Grochow said. “Now, the composite ones we use are one-third the weight.”
Training Officer Dennis Johnson thought of the idea, commented Chief Dale Grochow.
Training is always an emphasis for the department, which trains once a month, and twice if there is a fifth Monday in the calendar, he added.
