Dassel-Cokato School Board to prepare lease agreement with DCRISC

DASSEL-COKATO, MN - During Monday night’s meeting, the Dassel-Cokato School Board approved moving forward with the Dassel-Cokato Regional Ice and Sports Center by preparing a formal land lease and usage agreement.
The agreement will have stipulations related to the building of the ice arena and that the school district will have no financial liability if it no longer could sustain itself. The arena must also be built debt-free as the ice arena board has money for it, according to Supt. Jeff Powers.
The language of the agreement will then be up for board approval in January or February.

Props to all of the people who have put so many thankless hours into this project! You are a gift and an inspiration to the community.

I just hope this doesn’t end up like the Cokato Swimming pool. Paid for by donations, but costing the city a sum of money every year. When you look at the numbers involved in hockey, is this the best use of our dollars and land at the school site?

I think the powers that be had better think twice about the ice arena. I have yet to see a hockey arena in this area be self-sufficient. The two hockey arenas in Hutchinson are being subsidized by the city taxpayers and Litchfield, too, has problems maintaining their arena. By the way, who is paying for the Zamboni and who will be responsible for payment of the utilities to keep the ice frozen? Will there be summer ice? Are the hockey participants going to be able to afford the cost of both participating and also maintaining the building if the plan is for them to be responsible for the maintenance, etc.? Who will pay the real estate taxes? As a taxpayer for our school district I definitely do not want to see my hard earned money used for hockey!!! Sorry guys, I would rather see more funds put into education rather than athletics. My checkbook is still burning from the last levy with our taxes increasing approximately 50% because of the levy passed a couple of years ago.

I agree with DC grandma and dc mom of 4. I’m tired of the high taxes. This arena will sooner or later end up on the public along with all its future improvements and expenses.

Sorry …”D-C Grandma and “Concered Taxpayer” but you both just need to RELAX and give a great big THANK YOU to the FEW and I repeat FEW people left in this area that are willing take on projects like this and make them happen. The P.A.C. The Bike Path, Cokato’s Swimming Pool, Cokato’s Outdoor Ice Rink and many, many other venues are well used
and if you dont think so….Go out for a drive before you settle in for the night and see all the people out enjoyig all the WELL spent tax money…I think you may be surprised with the high level of usage.
