DASSEL, MN — The museum operated by the Dassel Area Historical Society, which includes a popular Community Room added by the city during renovations last year, has a formal name now — the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum.
The new name was unveiled during the Dassel City Council meeting Monday by Museum Director Carolyn Holje. Until now, the complex went by a variety of names, including the Ergot Building, the Dassel museum, and a few variations in between. Ergot is the name of a fungus that was used for medicinal purposes during World War II.
The building, not to be confused with the Dassel Railroad Museum, which is associated with Howard Page, has an upper level area for rent as well as a main Community Room used for large gatherings, plays and other entertainment venues.
