Cokato siblings compete in bluegrass contest in Branson

COKATO, MN – Four siblings from The Mahlstedt Family band in Cokato were finalists in a recent bluegrass band contest in Branson, MO.

“This is the first contest we’ve done like this,” said 20-year-old Isaiah.

Isaiah is one of nine children in the family of Dean and Lorna Mahlstedt of Cokato. Isaiah is a guitar player, while his brother Jacob, 18, is a mandolin and fiddle player. Their younger brother, Caleb, plays Dobro (a type of acoustic guitar), and their sister, Hannah, 14, plays banjo and fiddle. All four of them are skilled vocalists, as well.

The Mahlstedt Family has been performing old and new bluegrass and gospel renditions for about 10 years.
