Cokato Museum is looking for old high school memorabilia for upcoming exhibit

COKATO, MN – There is a new exhibit coming to the Cokato Museum titlted “One era ends, another era begins: The Closing of Cokato High School & the Opening of Dassel-Cokato High School” and is looking for memorabilia.
Mike Worcester, museum director, submitted the following:
On Feb. 20, 1969, the voters of the independent school districts in Dassel and Cokato voted overwhelmingly to merge, ending years of discussion between the neighboring communities. The effective date of the merger was July1, 1969. On Sept. 5, 1972, the new Dassel-Cokato Junior-Senior High School opened on land between the two communities on the north side of U.S. Hwy. 12.
Just three months prior, 70 students marched down the aisle, marking the last graduating class of Cokato High School. After that day, there was to be no more Cokato Cardinals. Now it would be the Dassel-Cokato Chargers.
The Cokato Museum is asking the help of the public in the development of our next exhibit, which will examine the last years of Cokato High School, and the first years of Dassel-Cokato High School. Any memorabilia or pictures from that period would be greatly appreciated. All items will be displayed in locked cases and returned after the exhibit ends. The schedule is to have the display open Wednesday, July 7, and run it through the end of October.
Please contact the museum at (320) 286-2427 for more information.
