COKATO, MN – The Cokato Museum and Historical Society will host its 10th annual New Year’s Eve open house, Sunday, Jan. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building.
Tin melting is a staple in many Finnish households on New Year’s Eve. Participants melt small pieces of tin over a stove in a cast-iron lathe, then cast the melted tin into a pail of cold water where it takes unique form. Traditions hold that these shapes will foretell what the upcoming year will bring.
