On Friday August 27, 2010 at 4:18 p.m. the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call in reference to a garage on fire at the address of 123 2nd Street North, Darwin. Upon arriving on scene the Sheriff’s Office spoke to Mary Koenen, age 36, who is the renter at this property, and verified that all members were out of the residence and safe. While Dassel Fire and Rescue were extinguishing the fire, the Sheriff’s Office along with the assistant Fire Chief from Dassel Fire and Rescue, spoke to a 14 year old step son who lives there in reference to the fire. At this time, the 14 year old admitted to playing with matches shortly before the fired happened. He stated that he thought he put the fire out, but did admit to burning a cardboard box in the Northwest portion of the garage, which is where the fire appeared to have been started. Harvey Riebe, of Darwin, owns the property and estimates the garage to be valued at $10,000 and is a total loss. Mary Koenen estimates the damaged property inside the garage to be valued at $3,000 - $4,000.
This case is under investigation by the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office and the Dassel Fire Department.
DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The complete cast and crew of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” which was produced and sponsored by Dassel-Cokato Community Education and Arts Association, pose for a picture on stage in full costume. The show ran from Thursday, July 22 to Sunday, July 25, and had a four-day attendance total of 2,054.
The total attendance for all four nights, and the show itself, greatly pleased everyone, according to director Dave Metcalf. “We had an excellent turnout, and this show was one of the best we’ve done,” he said. “To put it in perspective, we had 50 more people at the Sunday matinee this year than we had total at last year’s show. I think word of mouth brought people in, and we were very pleased.”
