COKATO, MN – A Dodge Charger was stolen from the Cokato Casey’s around 6:30 a.m. Friday that had law enforcement officials on a hot pursuit that ended on Highway 55 near the KARE 11 studio in Golden Valley, according to West Hennepin Public Safety. The suspect, who was identified as a 25-year-old male from St. Louis Park, was arrested at the scene. Formal chargers are expected Monday. COKATO, MN – A burglar broke the lock on the front door of the Pizza Factory at 345 Broadway Avenue in Cokato last night, taking money out of the cash register, as well as rolls of change, according to Pizza Factory owner Dave Piepgras. The burglary was reported to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office when it was discovered by Piepgras at 9:15 a.m.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office also received a report at 10:09 a.m. of an attempted burglary at the Hair Loft at 320 Broadway Avenue in Cokato.
Emmy’s Salon in Howard Lake was also burglarized last night, with the burglar breaking the lock and cleaning out the cash register, according to an employee. The burglary was discovered at about 8:45 a.m. It is believed the burglary took place between 2 and 2:15 a.m., according to Howard Lake Police Chief Tracy Vetruba.
These incidents are under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
DASSEL, MN – A Dassel-Cokato school bus was rear-ended on Highway 12 around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning as it was making a left-hand turn onto 730th Street, east of Dassel, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office. There were no passengers on the bus and no injuries were reported.
COKATO, MN – Wright County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted burglary at Cokato Dairy Queen. The alarm went off at 5:28 a.m., according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, and when a worker arrived, she found the glass drive-thru window was broken. Entry was made, but nothing was taken.
DASSEL, MN – The Dassel Fire Department was called to a fire at Custom Woodcrafters at 910 Parker Avenue in Dassel around 7:40 a.m., according to Dassel Fire Chief Dale Grochow.
Witnesses at the scene said they first saw smoke, then heard a small explosion.
The building, owned by Howard Page, and the business, owned by Lee Anders, is a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time, and the state fire marshal has been called in to investigate, Grochow said.
Also responding to the fire was the Cokato Fire Department and the Meeker County Sheriff’s office.
DASSEL, MN – Meeker County Aid Highway 15 is temporarily closed between 190th and 200th streets after it was found to be unsafe after the recent rainfall, according to Ron Mortenson, highway engineer. The county is currently working on repairing a culvert that appears to be the cause of the excess water along the roadway.
