Well the NASCAR season is coming to a close with only two races to go. Last weeks race was a rather interesting one. Carl Edwards, the # 99 car, pulled off the fuel strategy.
When you think of NASCAR drivers you think of fast speeds but his crew chief told him to ‘slow down’…. That’s unusual to hear but it worked out for him. He got in the lead by a good twelve seconds and then backed off and basically coasted the rest of the way to the checkered flag….The slow down was to save fuel and he ran 96 laps on one tank of fuel!! Go ‘back flip’ Edwards!
It’s hard to explain the rules of a fantasy NASCAR league, if your not a part of it, but I have been running twelve weeks (in first place) with no doubles left. Basically on a wing and a prayer. My strategy was to use up the top drivers, get in first by a good lead and then pick the drivers that will work hard for points. So far so good. I did lose my first place standing a couple of weeks ago and am now in 2nd place but I am closing the gap between the first place player and myself. I will be really focused on the last two races. I am hoping for at least a top five finish. Yayyy me!!
I have learned so much about NASCAR but have to admit that there is a lot that I still do not know about the sport. My daughter and soon to be son-in-law got me into the league and it’s been fun sharing picks for each race and watching as we climb or fall back in league standings. A little razzing with other league players has also been a blast.
I get a lot of the razzing from family and friends about being a NASCAR fan. The whole turn left sport….the jokes and stuff don’t bother me and I just think of it this way – Everyone has a passion for something. Mine happens to be NASCAR racing and Honey Tea!
Its time to think about fall cleaning and organizing. Does anyone know where I can recycle my old cell phones? I have quite a collection just laying around and would like to get rid of them.
I thought I read somewhere that old cell phones can be dropped off at the Dassel Cokato High School. Is this correct??
It has been awhile since I have written an update on my NASCAR fantasy league. I thought it was time seeing as there are only 10 more races left of the season, and we are now into the Chase to see who will end up THE CHAMPION!
I have learned a great deal about NASCAR. The race off pit road still confuses me. I’m still thinking if they went into pit road in first place, they should be able to return to their spot in the line up once they have changed tires, adjusted air pressure, and loaded up on another few gallons of fuel. But….it doesn’t work that way.
There are a lot of talented race car drivers out there and it really gets things heated up when one driver will spin out another and take over the lead or what I like is a driver coming from farther back in the pack and just pushing his way to the front. That’s good racin’ boys! (My favorite quote is…..‘It’s not rude, it’s racin!’)
Another part of the NASCAR league that I like is I play with some pretty fun people. Nutrageous is on my tail in third place. He’s going to give me a bit of trouble I fear in these last ten races, and JJ Racing isn’t far behind either, she’s in seventh place and I could just as well head DOWN to meet up with her. Forza Motorsports is climbing to the top and currently in 17th place – He’s on his way up slow but steady. Each week we share our race picks with each other and I am faithful about writing down each of our picks and then tracking them on live leader board during the race. I still don’t have all the drivers matched up with their car numbers yet. LOL!!!
As of last week’s race in Richmond (#26) I am still holding on in first place. I have held that spot for the last seven weeks. I am very anxious to see where I end up by the end of the season. I will do another update at the end of the race season with my final standing in the league. If you want something fun to do next year, find a NASCAR fantasy league to join. It’s a crazy fun time!

Tonight starts the second season of Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel.
For those of you that have not seen the first season, the show consists of the History Channel following crazy truck drivers as they venture 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle to drive the most isolated and dangerous ice roads in North America. This season they’re (truck drivers) hauling their loads over the ocean, from Inuvik, in the Northwest Territories, to deep out onto the Arctic, where natural gas exploration is under way. They have to follow the speed limit (70 kilometers or about 43.4 miles an hour) in order to not cause waves underneath the ice. Continue reading ‘Ice Road Truckers - Season 2′
