Detour arrives in Hwy. 12 construction project

FOR SUBSCRIBERS – Highway 12 construction moves ahead with work continuing in Cokato and by Dassel-Cokato High School (DCHS).

Project Manager Rob Abfalter provided an update. He reported that last week, work included: bituminous patching in curb areas; continuation of removals in Cokato; placement of gravel as needed; and continuation with concrete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) work; and saw cutting where needed.

Trelstads hit the race tracks this summer

FOR SUBSCRIBERS – After more than 30 years, the Trelstad family is back into competitive racing.

Matt Trelstad, owner of TM Manufacturing in Cokato, used to race in the same series that his sons, Travis and Thomas, graduates of Dassel-Cokato High School, began racing a few weeks ago.

“It was my passion back in the day, and I really wanted to get back into it,” Trelstad said.

The school transportation conundrum

FOR SUBSCRIBERS – Of all the difficult decisions school district leaders face as they plan to reopen schools for 2020-21, the hardest one might be the most basic: how to get students to the buildings.

It’s not a question districts and schools can take for granted. Federal law requires transportation for students with disabilities and who are homeless. District-provided transportation is a necessity for many of the estimated 760,000 students statewide who ride a bus to-and-from school every day.

MnDOT Project Supervisor Rob Abralter reported that, last week:

Superintendent Jeff Powers explains virtual option to DC school board

FOR SUBSCRIBERS – Planning for the fall was the main topic at the Dassel-Cokato School Board meeting July 23.  School districts across Minnesota are waiting for what Governor Tim Walz will say about what the school year will look like July 30. At the Dassel-Cokato School District, they have been preparing for several weeks.

Darwin family U of M Meeker County Farm Family of The Year

FOR SUBSCRIBERS – The Cervin family of Darwin has been named Meeker County’s 2020 Farm Family of the Year by the University of Minnesota.

“We are honored, this was an unexpected recognition and we are humbled to be selected,” Corey Cervin said, “We have received numerous congratulatory comments from peers and others in our community which has been very appreciated.”
