Accident on CSAH 6 near Dassel causes momentary power outage

EDITORS NOTE: Xcel Energy’s initial report only showed a momentary outage. Upon further investigation, it was found that 40 customers were out for more than seven hours from the time of the crash to roughly 3:35 a.m. while the electrical pole was being replaced, according to Tom Hoen, spokesperson for Xcel Energy.

DASSEL, MN – An accident on County State Aid Highway 6 near Dassel caused the power for Xcel Energy customers to go out just long enough for them to have to reset the clocks, according to Xcel Energy’s media relations.

The Meeker county Sheriff’s Office received a report at about 8:47 p.m. of a personal injury accident that occurred near 73665 County State Aid Highway 6.

A 2002 Dodge Caravan, driven by Sarah Cady, 35, of Dassel, was eastbound on CSAH 6 when the vehicle hit black ice as it was approaching a curve and spun out of control, according to a Meeker County Sheriff’s report.

Entering the north ditch, the vehicle struck and snapped off a high line pole. There were no serious injuries to Cady or three juvenile passengers, according to the report.

Assisting at the scene were Dassel Rescue, the Dassel Fire Department, and Gold Cross Ambulance.

Approximately 2,062 Xcel Energy customers were momentarily without power, and Xcel Energy had to replace the pole.

    We live about a mile east of the site and in this area we were out of power until 3:30 a.m.
