A pleasant visit with Cokato third graders

I had the pleasure of visiting with students in Mike Barton’s social studies class today (Tuesday) at Cokato Elementary (shown above).  They were a true treat to visit with — very patient and respectful.   They wanted to talk about an article I wrote a few weeks ago about ancestry (click here for a link to the article).  When I asked how many Finn kids there were in the class, the room came alive with little hands.  Some questions were why I thought of this article (it just came to me after I wrote a story about commuter statistics a few weeks before), what other things I write about (anything from fires and accidents to hobbies and history) and many smaller questions about the article itself, such as who was my favorite person listed in the “famous people” portion of the article.  I picked Osmo Vanska, the Finnish composer of the Minnesota Orchestra.

It was a fine day.
