DASSEL, MN – Dassel Elementary School is one of eight schools nominated by the Minnesota Department of Education for the 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. Dassel Elementary was nominated for the award based on its exemplary high performance, meaning the students, regardless of their backgrounds, are high performing. The school is ranked among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by its performance on state assessments.
Teachers and staff at Dassel Elementary will complete an application for the award by March 2, which will be sent to the US Department of Education. The national winner will be selected in September, with an award ceremony taking place in Washington D.C. in November, according to Morris.
DASSEL, COKATO, MN – Since construction began last fall, prospective buyers have shown interest in purchasing the Dassel-Cokato High School’s vocational house, according to DC business manager Tina Palmer. Although a month earlier than usual, the school board approved opening bidding for the house at Thursday’s board meeting. Due to the fact that two people showing interest in the house would want adjustments made if they are the high bidder, advertising for and accepting bids early was a requested by Steve Ellis, the industrial technology teacher at DC High School, according to Palmer.
Bids will be accepted through Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. The minimum bid for the house is $35,000 plus Minnesota Sales Tax, for a total of $37,406. All bids should be submitted to Tina Palmer, Business Manager, ISD 466, 4852 Reardon Avenue SW, Suite 1700, Cokato, MN 55321. Those interested in viewing the home should contact Ellis at (320) 286-4100.
DASSEL-COKATO, MN – After receiving third place at subsections in Delano Saturday, Dassel-Cokato One-Act will not be competing at section finals this weekend. However, a free public performance will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. See story for details of the play.
Charles Fredrick Willhelm Ohm, 98, of Litchfield, formerly of Dassel and Cokato, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Jan. 26 at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
Visitation will take place Monday, Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m. at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
The funeral service will take place Monday, Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
A luncheon will follow the service at Emmanuel Home.
Internment will take place in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Cokato following the luncheon.
Roland Carl Nelson, 64, passed away Jan. 27.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato.
The funeral service will take place Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato.
