COKATO, MN – The Friends of Cokato Area Library are accepting book donations for the used book sale at the Cokato Library and Marketplace.
The sale is set for Thursday, April 14 from 2 to 8 p.m., and Friday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The Dassel-Cokato Charger Thunder drumline team will perform its last local show Saturday at the Performing Arts Center at 12:30 p.m. and is free to the public. The Chargers will then head to the state competition at St. Cloud State University.
UPDATE: March 30, 3:43 p.m. The medical examiner’s office has released preliminary results of their autopsy and has determined the death of DeVan Hawkinson to be a homicide.
ANNANDALE, MN – The Annandale Police and fire department responded to 74 Honeysuckle Lane in the city of Annandale on a possible structure fire March 27 at 3:42 p.m. Upon arrival, the homeowner and sole occupant of the residence, DeVan Hawkinson, age 63 was found deceased. This incident remains under investigation by the Annandale Police Department, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, the Wright County Medical Examiner’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
On March 29th, Annandale Police and Wright County Sheriff’s Office personnel conducted an evidentiary article search in the vicinity of the fire scene. The incident continues to be actively investigated and several leads are being followed up on at this time. There have been no arrests made in connection with the homicide.

COKATO, MN – Starwatch event with Mike Lynch is planned for Friday, April 8 at Cokato Township Hall. Lynch will begin his presentation inside for a brief orientation and then you will head outside to get close and personal with our universe.
Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Orion the Hunter, Gemini the Twins, Leo the Lion, and the many of the great stories about how they made it up in the heavens. Mike will use his large reflecting telescopes, including a giant 20-inch reflector, one of the biggest mobile telescopes in the Upper Midwest for close up views of star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and other wonders in our skies. He will also use his brand new astronomical camera-telescope system for extra special views of our more distant universe. You’ll get a great handout package with user-friendly star maps and constellation charts, websites, a telescope-buying guide, and more! Your universe is waiting – make the stars your old friends! You are invited to bring lawn chairs to make yourself comfy.
Lynch is a meteorologist at WCCO Radio and has been teaching astronomy classes for over 40 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the books, “Mike Lynch’s Minnesota Star Watch” and “Wisconsin Starwatch” that’ll be available for purchase at a discount. Easy to use MP3 star maps packages will also be available for purchase.
This presentation will be held 8 to 10 p.m. at the Cokato Township Hall, located two miles north of Cokato. Pre-registration is required. Fees are $20 for adults and $8 for students. WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The Wright County Highway Department announced today that CSAH 35 (Wolff’s Swamp) is now open between CSAH 6 and CSAH 7. Water has receded. It was noted that there was some remaining ice covering, but most has been removed and the rest should disappear soon as a result of the sun’s effect.
DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The school board approved the retirement of Mark Dolan, third grade teacher at Cokato Elementary, at the end of the school year.
Dolan has been a teacher at Cokato Elementary for 33 years.
