Dave Metcalf resigns as fall musical and one-act play director

DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The Dassel-Cokato School Board approved the resignation of Dave Metcalf as the fall musical and one-act play director at Thursday’s meeting.

Metcalf has directed the fall high school musical since 1984, directing 25 musicals and five one-act plays.

Juvenile breaks into Cokato Elementary over the weekend

COKATO, MN –A juvenile male from Litchfield was arrested early Saturday morning after he was found to have broken into Cokato Elementary School, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

A burglar alarm was activated at the Cokato Elementary School around 2 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 26) and upon the deputy’s arrival minutes later, an individual was located inside the school near the office. The subject who was identified as a 15 year old male from Litchfield. He was cooperative and opened the door allowing the deputy to take him into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

While inside the school, the deputy discovered that the subject had damaged the alarm speaker that was sounding by striking it with a fire extinguisher, but did not locate any other damage. The subject was arrested for fourth degree burglary, third degree criminal damage to property, underage alcohol consumption and the City of Cokato’s curfew violation.

Author Zemke to speak on orphan trains at Dassel History Center

DASSEL, MN – The Dassel Public Library and the Friends of the Dassel Library will host Minnesota author Ann Zemke at the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum Monday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
Zemke is the author of “They Named Me Marjorie: The Brave Journey of an Orphan Train Rider.” Zemke tells her grandmother Marjorie’s story using the quilt that she made in her grandmother’s memory.
This project is funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.

Business seminar with Minnesota Mentors Thursday, Feb. 24

Minnesota Mentors and Herald Journal will join together to present an expert-led, free seminar for small businesses focused on trends, projections, and practical strategies to maximize potential in 2011.

DC School Board meeting Thursday

DASSEL, COKATO, MN – The Dassel-Cokato School Board’s monthly meeting will take place Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the board room at Dassel-Cokato High School.

Items on the agenda include the revised 2010-2011 budget and authorizing the business manager to sell the vocational house.
