Student/parent event at Cokato Elementary Tuesday

DASSEL, COKATO, MN – Dassel and Cokato elementary students will have the opportunity to see a live-actor play called the Great Rumpelstiltskin while parents meet for an elementary parent information meeting Tuesday. at 5 p.m.
The play is in conjunction with the Cokato Public Library and will take place at the Cokato Elementary School’s  auditorium, Door A.
There is no charge. DC elementary parents are welcome to attend the informational meeting even if their child does not attend the play.

DC FFA corn drive Tuesday

DASSEL, COKATO, MN – This year the Annual Corn Drive for Camp Courage run by the Dassel-Cokato FFA will be  Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Corn, cash and soybeans will all be accepted as donations. Camp Courage is located in Maple Lake and is a camp for disabled individuals.
It gives them a chance to go to camp and participate in activities without their disabilities holding them back.
FFA members will be driving around on the Tuesday seeking donations. If you wish for a member to stop by your farm please call (320) 286-4100 ext. 1883 and leave a message with your name, number, and what you wish to donate.

Level III sex offender moves to Darwin

DARWIN, MN – As part of the community notification law, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a meeting at Darwin City Hall 7 p.m. Thursday regarding a level three sex offender having recently moved into the area.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office was recently notified by the Minnesota Department of Corrections that Jeffrey Alan Truelson, 44, has changed his address from Ellsworth Township to the City of Darwin.

Truelson is not wanted by law enforcement, and has served his sentence, according to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with any questions to attend the public meeting at 7 p.m., Nov. 4 at Darwin City Hall, located at 305 East Curran Street, Darwin.

Sex offender notification law

Sex offenders are ranked on a scoring system from one to three, with three having the highest risk of reoffending, according to Norlin.

Minnesota’s predatory offender community notification law requires law enforcement to share certain information about the offender based on risk level, according to the state statute.

Darwin woman injured in crash with semi

DARWIN, MN – Sherri Ann Forcier, of Darwin, was trapped in her flat bed truck after being hit by a semi the evening of Oct. 27, according to Meeker County Chief Deputy Brad Lindgren.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 18 south of Dassel.
Forcier was traveling north on Highway 15 in a flatbed truck towing a construction trailer.
She was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto County Road 18, according to Lindgren.
Marvin Eugene Miller, of Iowa, was also traveling north, behind Forcier, in a semi with a fully-loaded trailer.
Miller told authorities at the scene that he thought Forcier was turning right onto County Road 18, so he attempted to pass her on the left-hand side.
Forcier was not turning right, but left, and Miller struck her truck on the driver’s side as she was turning, Lindgren said.
Forcier was trapped inside the vehicle. When she was finally extricated, she was taken by ambulance to the Hutchinson hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Lindgren.
The accident is still under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, according to Minnesota State Patrol Captain Al Kutz.

Dassel-Cokato High School’s fall musical ‘The Wiz’ takes the stage Nov. 18

DASSEL-COKATO, MN – There will be four opportunities to see the fall high school musical production of “The Wiz.” The first scheduled performance will be Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. Other times include Friday, Nov. 19 at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. Advanced ticket sales begin Monday, Nov. 1 can be purchased at the door or in the Dassel-Cokato High School activities office or by calling (320) 286-4100 ext 1813 or 1811. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students.

Strong winds cause trees to fall all over the area

cokato.tree.blogCOKATO, DASSEL, MN – Trees, like this one in  a yard on the corner of Broadway Avenue and 6th Street in Cokato, were down all over the area yesterday with the strong winds. The power was out in the town of Cokato for about five minutes around 6 p.m.,  due to a fallen tree, and many residents lost their cable television service for a few hours. Trees fell all over Meeker County across roads and streets, some causing power outages, according to the Meeker County Sheriff’s report.
