Princess Kay to be chosen tonight

ST. PAUL, MN — Coronation for the state dairy princess, known as the Princess Kay of the Milky Way, will be chosen tonight, on the eve of the State Fair.  Results will be posted on the Midwest Dairy web site. The twelve finalists for Princess Kay of the Milky Way are the following:

Last night of entertainment at the Mushroom Building

DASSEL, MN- Wednesday will be the last night of entertainment for the 2009 season at the Mushroom Building. The Dassel Leikarring dancers with Fiddlin’ Around will be the entertainment starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments by Wells Fargo Bank of Dassel will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Rotary school supply drive begins today

DASSEL-COKATO, MN - The Cokato Dassel Rotary Club is hosting its second annual school supply drive benefiting students of all ages in the Dassel-Cokato Public Schools. School supplies can be dropped off beginning today (Monday, Aug. 24) until Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the four banks – Wells Fargo and Farmers State Bank in Dassel, along with First National Bank and the State Bank in Cokato. Supply lists are on line at www.dc.k12.mn.us. Some supplies needed include dry erase markers, glue sticks, 3-subject notebooks (wide and narrow), pencils, pens, folders, larger sized backpacks, 3-ring binders, etc.

Litchfield soldier is killed in Afghanistan

ARGHANDAB, AFGHANISTAN — Private First Class Jonathan C. Yanney, 20,  of Litchfield died in Arghandab, Afghanistan Aug. 18, according to WCCO.

Yanney died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his unit.

Yanney was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division out of Fort Lewis, Wash.

A soldier from New Mexico, Spc. Troy O. Tom, 21, was also killed in the same explosion.
