Transit design event was Nov. 12 in Otsego

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – The Wright County Economic Development Partnership held a Transit Orientated Design Event at their monthly noon luncheon event on November 12 at Riverwood Inn and Conference Center in Otsego.
The presenter was James Lasher, the founding principal of LSA Design, Inc., which is a landscape architecture and planning firm offering services in planning transit design, structural engineering and parking consulting.
Focusing on “community mobility,” Mr. Lasher has developed a regional and national reputation in transit oriented development/mixed-use transit facility development through his writings and project specific experiences.

Mystery Photo for the week of Nov. 24

The Enterprise Dispatch web site is hosting a weekly Internet Mystery Photo taken in the Dassel, Darwin, Cokato, or Kingston area. Those who correctly guess the identity of the photo will be added to a monthly drawing for a free subscription to the newspaper. The first person to correctly guess the Mystery Photo for the week of Nov. 17 of the State Bank of Cokato reader board was Jim Juncewski of Dassel. Answers may be typed directly online by leaving a comment (though “closed” so answers cannot be viewed by other guessers) at this site or e-mailed to Kristen Miller at kmiller@heraldjournal.com.

State transportation unfairly criticized, Shimanski says

SILVER LAKE, MN – Crews recently finished a Highway 7 construction project from Silver Lake to St. Bonifacius, the latest in a string of highway upgrades that will benefit this area.
Highways 15, 22, and 212 also have received extensive work the last few years as Minnesota bucks a popular misconception that its infrastructure is eroding.
Many folks were led to believe our state’s transportation system is woefully underfunded when the I-35W bridge tragedy occurred in August, 2007.
The bridge collapse became the critics’ Exhibit A as to how Minnesota is crumbling.

Electric co-op donates to local charities

WRIGHT COUNTY, MN – Local residents belonging to Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) demonstrated their commitment to helping others when their recent Operation Round Up (ORU) donation of $42,242 was used to support local charities and worthy causes.
These causes ranged from helping provide toys for children in need to providing scholarships to enable children to attend camps and retreats.

Law enforcement officers urge safety during holidays

HOWARD LAKE, MN – Howard Lake officers are encouraging motorists to travel safely during the Thanksgiving holiday. Each year, the Thanksgiving travel period (Wednesday through Sunday) proves to be one of the deadliest travel periods of the year in Minnesota.
During 2005–2007, 23 motorists were killed and 63 were injured over the holiday weekend.
Howard Lake officers cite seat belt use and impaired driving as major concerns for Thanksgiving travel.
Of the 23 Thanksgiving-period deaths, 11 of the motorists killed were not wearing seat belts and 13 of the crash victims were killed in alcohol-related crashes.
