Plenty of Christmas doings at area churches

Christmas candlelight dessert at Elim Mission
Dede Hard is the guest speaker at the Christmas Candlelight Dessert, “. . . And Heaven Came Down” at Elim Mission Thursday, Dec. 4 and Friday, Dec. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. Valet parking begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $7 by calling (320) 286-2662.
‘Little Christmas’ set for Saturday
The Cokato Finnish American Historical Society will celebrate Pikkujoulu (Little Christmas) Saturday, Dec. 6 starting with the candle lighting at 3:30 p.m. in the Finnish cemetery. A potluck supper will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Cokato Township Hall.
Christmas brunch at Dassel Covenant
The annual Women’s Ministerial Christmas brunch is planned for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 9:30 a.m. at Dassel Covenant Church. Special music will be provided by “Special Delivery.”
Christmas brunch at Stockholm Saturday
Stockholm WELCA’s Christmas brunch will be Saturday, Dec. 6 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Music will be provided by Earth Angels, a traditional gospel group composed of sisters from Cokato, who now live in Litchfield. No charge to attend.
Potato sausage and ham dinner Sunday

Ostmark Lutheran Church will host a potato sausage and ham dinner Sunday, Dec. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 and menu includes scalloped potatoes, peas, carrots, cranberries, bread, milk, coffee, lemonade, and bars. Take-outs will be available.
Free car care Saturday
Free car care (oil change and minor repairs) will be offered for single moms and widows at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. Call (320) 286-2861 to make an appointment.

Cokato Chamber to announce Citizen of Year

The Cokato Chamber of Commerce will announce its Citizen of the Year noon Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Daniel’s Restaurant during its holiday celebration. Musical entertainment will be provided by folk harpist Jenni Harris. To RSVP, call LouAnn at city hall, (320) 286-5505. New members are welcome.

Santa is scheduled to arrive soon in DC

Santa will be at the Dassel-Cokato Early Childhood Center, Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9:30 a.m. to noon to visit children, birth through elementary age.
Country Gallery will be there to capture the children’s visit with Santa. Local storyteller, Bob Gasch, will share tales of Christmas and the North Pole.
Holiday activities and gift making stations will be available for children to make a few gifts. The event is free and sponsored by the Cokato Chamber of Commerce and DC Early Childhood program.

Later in the month, Santa will return with his wife, Mrs. Claus, to visit the Dassel Fire Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20. The visit with the Clauses is sponsored by the Dassel Fire Department, its auxiliary, and the Dassel Area Chamber of Commerce.

Cokato chamber to host ‘Celebrate the Holidays’

COKATO, MN – Cokato Chamber of Commerce is hosting a “Celebrate the Holidays” event at Daniel’s Restaurant, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at noon. Musical entertainment will be provided by Jenni Harris, folk harpist. The chamber recognition plaque will be awarded to the Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Cost per person is $7.50. Cokato Lions to sponsor Silent Santa program

COKATO-DASSEL, MN – The Cokato Lions will be coordinating the Silent Santa program in the Cokato and Dassel areas. They will be collecting and distributing gifts for the less fortunate. Assisting the Lions will be members of the DCHS National Honor Society, Heartland Community Action Agency and Wright County Social Services plus other area organizations. In the past, gifts have been distributed to over 100 individuals annually.
Gifts (new and unwrapped) will be collected until Friday, Dec. 19. Collection boxes will be available after Thanksgiving in Cokato at First National Bank, State Bank, Holt Motors, Cokato Motors, Daniel’s Family Restaurant, Dollar General, MAWSECO, Allina Medical Clinic, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
