Any ideas for Darwin’s Twine Ball Day

Last night I attended a meeting for Darwin’s Community Club. This was an effort to gain more memberships, so I signed up. This club is similar to a historical society in that it pays for and controls the Darwin Museum, but it does more than that. It also helps with community projects and Twine Ball Day. As a member of the Community Club, I also joined the Twine Ball Day committee. Just wondering, for those who attend Twine Ball Day, what would you like to see this year? Either activities or in the parade?

Consider the beautiful Arboretum this spring

A few brave Dutch irises and snowdrops are debuting in the gardens of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, according to a news release from the Arboretum. A sure sign of spring! Here are more harbingers of the season. Continue reading ‘Consider the beautiful Arboretum this spring’

Sports webcast good idea or not?

The Wright County Conference is considering signing on to WebcastAmerica which would allow each school district in the conference to videotape home sporting events. This would be no cost to the district. Webcast America would even pay students to video tape the games. Apparantly Annandale and Watertown are trying it out. With advertising and after market video sales, the district might even make a profit off of it. The district could choose to opt out for home games, but away games would still be broadcast. Just wondering if this is something the DC community would want or if they wouldn’t want their kids broadcast on the web?

To some, texting is a whole new language

I’ve been working on an article about teenagers and text messaging. Through my research, I found a few abbreviations kids are using for texting purposes and thought it be fun to share them with you all.

HRU - How are you?
IDK - I don’t know
LOL - Laughing out loud

Is text messaging going too far?

It’s not a new technology, it’s been around for a few years now, but I think text messaging is starting to replace actually calling and talking with someone over the phone. Continue reading ‘Is text messaging going too far?’

Victim Protection Week is this week

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2008: Justice for Victims. Justice for All.
By the Wright County Sheriff’s Office
Americans believe in justice for all. Yet to achieve justice for all, we must seek justice for victims of crime. Victims want offenders held accountable for their crimes. And they want our nation to honor their rights, protect their safety, and help them rebuild their lives. April 13-19 is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week- a time to improve our community’s response to victims. Victims may need compensation for their losses, a chance to be heard in court, or neighbors who understand that crime can happen to anyone. Enforcing victims’ rights protects victims, enhances public safety, and fosters public confidence in our criminal justice system.

To find out more about crime victim services in Wright County, or how you can help victims, please contact any of the following agencies: Continue reading ‘Victim Protection Week is this week’

Do you like the new Dassel tower design?

dassel-tower.jpgThis is a drawing of what the new water tower design may be for Dassel. The council decided to go with lower-cased letters.  The design is part of a new tower that is being planned right now.

The tower will likely be given a special coating to help keep it clean.  This coating has proven to be effective in other communities, according to Administrator Myles McGrath.
