Joan Keskey wins free cruise

cruiseweb.jpgJoan Keskey, formerly of Dassel, won the Herald Journal Caribbean cruise giveaway, valued at more than $1,500, arranged through Travel Easy Tours of Waconia. Keskey is living in Montrose, but is a well known beautician in the Dassel-Cokato area.  She bought her ticket at  Eye Opener Coffee House in Winsted.

Shown in the photo are newspaper employees Jami Berg, Sarah Bisping (on phone with KDUZ radio), and Janey Oberg, drawing Keskey’s name on Friday. Second place went to Judy Bayerl of Winsted who bought her ticket at the Hollywood Sports Complex in Watertown, who won Chanhassen dinner theater tickets, and third place went to J. Erickson of Cokato, who won Underwater World tickets at the Grounds in Cokato.

A glimpse of the lunar eclipse

eclipse.jpgPaul Beckermann of Cokato endured the cold Wednesday night (Feb. 27) to take shots of the lunar eclipse. The next eclipse of the moon will be Dec. 21, 2010. The picture at left was taken around 9:05 p.m. The second photo was taken a bit later.

Should Dassel get metro calling?

The Dassel Chamber of Commerce is petitioning for signatures - about 400 are needed in order to go to a vote- for metro calling to come to Dassel. Cokato has it and in order for Litchfield to get it, it needs to be installed in Dassel first. For those in Cokato, do you like metro calling? For Dassel residents, what are your thoughts on getting it?

Schoolhouses of Minnesota

I purchased a few books from a gentleman that spoke at the Dassel Cokato Rotary Club last year and I wanted to share some of the photos in his book Schoolhouses of Minnesota. The photographer is Doug Ohman of Pioneer Photography. You can view some of his photos and get his contact information by logging onto his website www.pioneerphotography.com - For now, enjoy the photos from one of his books. Can you remember walking into your old school house?

Stop and checkout DC Drumline

shauna.gifLooking for something to do Saturday night? Stop by the west gym at the Dassel-Cokato High School to see and hear the drumline perform “Big City Blues.” The 1930s costumes and music will be sure to jazz up the night. The show begins at 6 p.m., but DC won’t be performing until the end (9 others will compete). I love this picture of Shauna Struthers.

Dassel Elementary loves to read

mystery-readweb.jpg

Children at Dassel Elementary School listened attentively Wednesday to a “mystery reader” who was reciting Dr. Seuss. Mystery readers throughout the week read stories aloud to students as part of February: I Love to Read Month. The mystery readers were business people from the area, retirees, and even a Wright County deputy, Drew Scherber. He read a story about a police officer and his dog, said Mary Neu, the school’s volunteer coordinator.

Dave Munsinger was the first to correctly identify last week’s Internet Mystery Photo as the yellow items in front of Chuck’s Floral in Cokato.

Slow cooker - Italian sandwiches

I don’t know about you but I adore my slow cooker! As a working Mother I still want to have healthy meals for my family but I don’t have much time when I get home. Especially on the nights my kids have sports games and practices. Continue reading ‘Slow cooker - Italian sandwiches’
