CARVER COUNTY, MN – Carver County Attorney Jim Keeler and Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson have announced that their two offices just completed an analysis of the eCharging initiative and say it’s poised to save Carver County more than $517,000 over the next five years, according to KDUZ.

The time and cost savings for 2010 will likely be $86,000, KDUZ reported. eCharging is an electronic criminal charging system that helps move information electronically between law enforcement, prosecution, courts, and state agencies. Before eCharging, each agency had its own computer system and process for charging criminal suspects.

eCharging results in improved public safety based on more accurate and complete criminal justice information, and a more efficient use of resources. In the fall of 2009, Carver County was a “pilot county” for the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s eCharging initiative. The two offices also worked with Carver County Information Services to implement the technology. The success in Carver County led to the state court system’s decision to adopt eCharging statewide.
